Why did you start volunteering with Trinity?

I started volunteering because I realised I wanted to be a part of something that makes a real difference in people’s lives. Being interested in pursuing a career in psychology, I am drawn to the idea of supporting others during difficult times and helping bring happiness to their day, and volunteering seemed like a perfect way to put this into practice. A friend who previously volunteered at Trinity encouraged me to get in touch, and I’m so glad I did!

Can you explain a bit about what you do in your volunteer role?

I take orders from patients - and sometimes from their families and/or visitors – and work alongside the kitchen team to ensure the correct meals are prepared, and then I deliver the food to the relevant people. This role not only gives me the opportunity to work closely with the catering staff but also provides me with the opportunity to speak with the patients too, which can be incredibly meaningful.

What do you enjoy the most about your role?

Interacting with all the people there! Being able to work with the staff both on the ward and in the kitchen allows me to truly recognise the way in which everyone at Trinity works together with such compassion and purpose. Connecting directly with the patients makes this role even more rewarding; having a chat or seeing a smile when you deliver their food truly shows you how meaningful it is to support someone, even in simple ways. It is an incredibly fulfilling environment to be in.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about volunteering with Trinity?

To go for it! All the staff are so welcoming and kind and offer support if you are unsure of anything. It is a place where care, both physical and emotional, is at the heart of everything; being in an environment where everyone is genuinely focused on making a positive difference for others is rare, but that is exactly what you find at Trinity.
