Our statement on Assisted Dying Royal Trinity Hospice exists to provide skilled, compassionate and individualised care to people at the end of their lives. We are here to enable people to live as well as possible until they die, and to enhance their quality of life by providing expert care in managing pain and other distressing symptoms. At Royal Trinity Hospice we support people in a way tailored to their individual needs and preferences to achieve a good death, something which is unique to each person we care for. We passionately believe that everyone who could benefit from quality palliative and end of life care should be able to access it. We know that specialist palliative and end of life care can make a life-changing difference for patients and their loved ones. But there is unequal provision of and funding for quality specialist palliative care nationally. Expert palliative and end of life care should be funded so that it is equally available to all either in hospital or in the community, and core provision should not depend on charitable giving. We recognise that the issue of assisted dying is complex and emotive for many. We do not campaign or take a position as an organisation on assisted dying. We respect the right of our staff, supporters and third parties to have their own personal beliefs, but all of the care we provide as a hospice is given according to the needs of our patients and in line with the framework of the laws that apply to palliative care and care at the end of life. Our concern is to ensure that we give the best possible care for people within the law as it stands at the time. October 2024 Manage Cookie Preferences
