Sustainability at the heart of Trinity At Royal Trinity Hospice, we are committed to doing our part to protect the planet while continuing to provide outstanding care. Building on the success of our award-winning sustainability strategy in our retail operations, we’ve expanded our ambitions. Our dedicated Green Group now leads the way in improving sustainability not just within our historic hospice building, but across everything we do in the wider community. Our main hospice site dates back to the mid 18th century. As a Grade II listed building, it brings unique challenges—constructed long before modern environmental standards and having seen limited investment over the decades. But we're determined to meet those challenges head-on and are close to setting out a multiyear investment plan to radically improve the energy efficiency of the building to then make informed and affordable decisions on what to invest in. These changes will save money in the long term through much lower energy use. Our new sustainability strategy, Seven Steps to Sustainability, reflects our long-term commitment to environmental responsibility. It focuses on seven key areas: Energy, Waste, Water, Procurement, Printing, Transport and People. Each area has its own set of clear, practical actions that guide our work. This is about more than just ticking boxes. We believe that sustainability is essential to providing high-quality, compassionate care—both now and for future generations. Caring for people and for the planet go hand in hand. By embedding sustainable practices throughout Trinity, we’re honouring our responsibility to the community we serve—today and in the future. Emily Carter, CEO, Royal Trinity Hospice We know meaningful change doesn’t happen overnight. That’s why our plan includes a mix of large-scale projects and quick wins. We’re proud of the progress we’ve already made, including: Introducing food waste collections across our estate Installing motion sensor lighting to reduce electricity usage Overhauling our café with sustainability at its heart—including B Corp-certified, responsibly sourced coffee, using reclaimed furniture and planet friendly cups and packaging. Switching all electricity contracts to 100% renewable sources Introducing e-bikes for our community team to use on visits …and much more! From reducing waste and energy use to promoting greener travel and rethinking procurement, every part of Trinity is playing a role. And our people are central to it all—learning, adapting and helping embed sustainability into everyday decisions. We’re still at the start of this journey, but our direction is clear. Together, we’re taking confident steps toward a greener future for Trinity. Manage Cookie Preferences
