Royal Trinity Hospice is celebrating a win in the Improving Inclusivity Category for its Hearing Loss Working Group in this year’s Hospice UK Awards.

The Award recognises the work of a project that has addressed inequality in a hospice's community and/or promoted equality, diversity and inclusion within their hospice.

Set up in early 2024, Trinity’s Hearing Loss Working Group has worked to ensure greater inclusion for deaf patients, staff and volunteers through a collaborative approach that brings together clinical education, patient services, organisational development and community engagement.

The team has greatly improved awareness of deaf insight within the staff team, ensured access to resources and delivered events specifically with the local deaf community in mind.

The Award was presented by Hospice UK Chief Executive Toby Porter, at the charity’s annual conference in Liverpool this week and accepted by Hospice Doctor, Natasha Wilcock.

Natasha Wilcock said: “I am thrilled that the work of Trinity’s Hearing Loss Group has been recognised by Hospice UK. This multidisciplinary project has successfully improved the support we can offer a group which is extremely underserved in all healthcare settings.

It’s been a privilege to work with patients and colleagues to improve the access and experience of both deaf patients and those in our wider community.

We are grateful to everyone who has engaged, collaborated and supported us. We look forward to continuing this work to improve the experiences of the deaf community – patients, staff and volunteers.”
