Introduction

The field of medicine is continually changing, with frequent updates in management, medications and best practice guidance. There can be challenges in a palliative care workforce, and especially in the hospice sector, for staff to maintain their capabilities and experience.

The HCMU course has been designed for practicing palliative care physicians and specialists, with content directly applicable to the hospice sector. It will deliver general medical updates on areas of new research, treatment modalities, and regulatory changes, with relevance to those working in palliative medicine community and hospice settings.

This course will offer a critical platform for busy physicians to access high-quality, targeted general medical updates relevant to their daily practice.

Course delegates will:

  • Receive timely, evidence-based medical updates relevant to palliative care. Talks on cardiac dysfunction, renal failure, and management of advanced liver disease have already been confirmed.
  • Participate in professional development and networking among peers in the field.
  • Receive CPD credits: 5 category 1 (external) CPD credits

 Course convenors:

  • Lead coordinator: Dr Becky Payne, Speciality Doctor, Royal Trinity Hospice.
  • Coordinator: Dr Jules Mogford, Speciality Doctor, Royal Trinity Hospice.
  • Coordinator: Dr Natasha Wilcock, Speciality Doctor, Royal Trinity Hospice.
  • Chair: Dr James Renshaw, Consultant in Palliative Care, Royal Trinity Hospice and St George's Hospital.
