“I hope that when I am at the end of my life, someone will make it special for me as well.”

My name is Cynthia, and this will be my third Christmas at Royal Trinity Hospice, a place that has truly become a second home to me.

When this opportunity at Trinity came up, I realised it was a chance to learn what it truly means to help someone have a peaceful death. That’s what inspires me: being able to be there for people at the end of their lives and helping them make the time they have left special.

This Christmas, I’m reaching out to ask for your support of the nursing team at Trinity. It costs around £12,500 to provide nursing care on Christmas Day alone, and we need your help to make this possible.

Help us be there this Christmas

What Christmas is like at the hospice

We know not everyone celebrates Christmas, but this time of year, with its darker, colder nights and moments of reflection on the year gone by, holds deep meaning for many of our patients and their families.

We do everything we can to make living and dying as comfortable and meaningful as possible. That means ensuring patients are pain-free, supporting their independence wherever possible and creating a calm and dignified environment.

For those who wish to celebrate, we decorate rooms, play festive music, and serve Christmas lunch to patients and their loved ones. But whether it’s Christmas, New Year, or a quiet winter’s day, our goal is always the same: to help people live and die well, making the most of the special moments that matter to them.

Moments your support makes possible

"When the end came, it was calm and quiet and pain-free. I was with her alongside an extraordinary nurse, and we held her as she passed. That nurse then held me as I cried - the darkest hour of my life - she cared for me too."

Harriet, Trinity Supporter

"One moment I still think about often was a young woman, around my age, with two small children, who would come in and out of the hospice as we helped manage her symptoms. Thanks to Trinity, she was able to be a mum again, making sandwiches for her children, holding them close, and spending time with her loved ones. This is what your support makes possible."
